Is World of Warcraft and MMORPGs addictive?

          Millions of people play the game World of Warcraft. According to an article written by James Ransom-Wiley, that number has now surpassed 10 million subscribers (Ransom). He states that this is “half the population of Australia.” So this brings up that everlasting question; is World of Warcraft addictive? To explore this question, we first must define what a gaming addiction is. Dr. Kimberly Young, of the Center for Internet Addiction Recovery defines it as

In Mark MacKay’s article “How Addictive is World of Warcraft,” the article states that “World of Warcraft is essentially endless.” Because of this, the game can easily become addictive due to the fact that the game essentially never ends. MacKay says that “Players use it to get away from reality and stress and to do something very different for a while.

Hey is the blog poll on the right for our class to take? If it is, it's missing an option. I personally believe the death knight is the most fun class to play due to superior spell graphics, various unique abilities, pet, and especially starting quest line. I would think many current players would agree as well. If our class is to take the poll, I will hold my vote until it's changed, or unless death knight is not an option simply because the class is too awesome.

Rebekah and I are excited to offer these Spring 2009 sections of WRIT 1133 devoted to World of Warcraft.  We decided to leave the previous classes' research and blog posts so you can get a sense of what types of work students did. You all will be contributing much more to this blog and website than students did last year.

      All elves are adept at magic, channeled through the wells created in ancient times by the god-like Titans, unfortunately posessing great power always seems to lead to corruption. Before the Third War a group of elven highbornes (the quel'dorei) addicted to power and magic were banished from the secluded Elven lands of Kalimdor to the Eastern Kingdoms. The Dark God Sargeras,  Leader of the Burning Legion, and corrupter the quel'dorei, filled with a lust for power, struck them at their new found home of Quel'Thalas, wiping out 90% of the quel'dorei.

I have the Human Warrior.  My warrior is a girl, medium color skin, brown hair.  She is strong and knows how to handle her business!

Redonkulous, an undead rogue of the highest class, sneaks through the world playing practical jokes and spouting nonsense. At 38, he still has fun tapping a mob on one shoulder with an Ambush, and then standing on the other side, confusing the mob...but often destroying them. He is also hungry all the time, cannibalizing the victims of his practical jokes, laughing the whole time though. Redonkulous rocks hard to Death metal and thinks humans are the scourge of the Earth.

Redonkulous is only loyal to Lady Sylvanas and uses everyone else as a means to an end.

Jakjakatak stands a towering and intimidating .789 meters. This may cause many to laugh but I would have you know that Jak does not take lightly to those who judge him by his size. So what if he's a gnome, it what he's got under the hood that counts or in this mages case, his fingertips. That's right, you won't be laughing after you've been frozen solid by a couple Frost Bolts. That's right.

When i first started playing I was a Tauren Shaman.  I loved going over to Red Ridge Mountains and crushing all the weaker and smaller Alliance players.

The character that I chose to play with in this game is a Tauren hunter. Tauren are huge human like creatures with almost bovine-like features. They are creatures who move around quite a bit and live in the grasslands.
