The Draenei are an alien race formally known as Eredar that came from a world called Argus. However, prior to landing on the Azuremyst Isles and collaborating with the Alliance, they had a hectic past riddled with war. Today, the turmoil-ridden continent of outland is all that remains of the Draenei’s former home known as Draenor. It all began thousands of years before, when a maniacal super-being named Sargeras offered the three Eredar leaders cosmic amounts of power in turn for their loyalty. However, one of the leaders named Velen had visions of the burning legion (an inexorable evil army) and fled with his people. While trying to flee, Velen and his people were aided by a race of sentient energy beings called the Naaru. The Naaru provided Velen with a ship and instilled him and his people with light-given knowledge and power.
Over the years, the Draenei fled from place to place, only to be hunted by Sargeras and the other malevolent leaders. It wasn’t until the inhabitation of Draenor that an extensive race ideology and worldview was eventuated. Here, the Draenei incorporated the light-given power into their lives. This connection with the light is seen everywhere in the Draenei lifestyle, more notably the use of light warriors known as paladins. However, after interacting with other races, the Draenei began assimilating various cultures into their race ideology. A major example of this is the use of shamanism, taken from the opposing orc and tauren races. Shamanism came into use by the lost/broken Draenei. The lost and broken Draenei are Draenei that have been mutilated and corrupted by evil, and can no longer employ the power of the light to do their bidding. Because they can no longer influence the light directly, they adapted shamanism to serve as an alternative means to connect to the power of the light.
From looking at the Draenei’s past and current lifestyle, a clear picture of their racial ideology can be drawn out. If placed in the real world, they would likely be a religion centered on holiness such as Christianity, or even Judaism based on their bloody history of being uprooted. They are generally non-confrontational, however when pushed to their limits they are not afraid to fight.
