Orc Ideology
Orc Ideology
The Orcs, although one of the oldest races in the World of Warcraft, are the most misunderstood among the races. The common misconception that dates back to Warcraft 1 is that they are the murderous “bad guys.” For some gamers that follow the lore of Warcraft, they would tell you otherwise. The Orcs were an extremely peaceful race until the Burning Legion influenced them to take a darker path. The Orcs were able to escape the clutches of the Burning Legion, freeing themselves from their evil grasp. In the battle between the Burning Legion and the Orcs, the Orc’s home world, Draenor, was destroyed. Having to find a new place to live, the Orcs built cities in Azeroth, which was territory of the Humans. The Humans never forgave the Orcs for trying to conquer Azeroth while they were under the control of the Burning Legion. Because of this grudge, the Humans began destroying Orc cities and enslaving the surviving Orcs. When the Orcs couldn’t withstand the Human’s racism any longer, they united under their leader, Thrall, and took back their freedom.
The Orcs are spiritual beings. They have a common bond to the Taurens because of their similar beliefs in honoring the Earth. The main difference is that Orcs are Shamanistic while Taurens follow the path of the Druids. Taurens believe in not damaging the land at all, while Orcs will build big cities to defend themselves against the Humans.
While Orcs are scary in appearance and love the thrill of the fight, they are very kind to their allies. They let the Taurens, Trolls, and Undead (although their relationship with the Undead isn’t very strong) into their cities. They are a proud, honorable, and loyal race. The Orc leader Thrall once said, “It is your duty to aid the Horde and to defend our way of life. But it is also your duty to know when quarter and compassion should be given to friend and foe alike.” Even though the Orcs are a proud race and will defend what they believe in, they will still join forces with their enemies to defeat a common enemy. The Orcs are willing to work with the Humans to defeat Arthas, who threatens to destroy all of Azeroth.
Although Orcs are considered to be the antagonists in Warcraft, they are in fact a peaceful race just trying to survive. They are strongly spiritual and have many Shamans to connect themselves with the land they live on. They believe that every race should be treated equally, which is why any race that is willing to be friendly to the Orcs are accepted as brothers. There is much more to the Orcs than their brutal appearances. Many people tend to look beyond the appearances of the Orcs and judge them to be evil even though they are one of the kindest and most loyal races in the game.
