Auction House Activity and Trends
The auction house located in Orgrimar on the Dalvengyr server is a place full of constant activity. Frequently players of all races, classes, and levels could be seen inside. Commonly, a player would run up to an auctioneer, and spend a few minutes in front of them, followed by running back outside. After interviewing multiple players we found that a majority or the players that responded were selling items, while a few were simply browsing the selection. The question that was asked to players found in the auction house was: "I am doing some research for the University of Denver and I am curious as to what you are buying or selling." The level 80 orc warrior, found in the Auction house at 2:57 mst responded by saying "I'm just selling some titansteel bars that's it." This was a common type of response. The level 80 orc hunter, found in the auction house at 3:01 mst replied that "I sell junk."
A majority of the players posed the question had little to no response. The is a possible reason to this outside of their plain lack of interest. Advanced players will use addons (or small programs that alter the game) to aid in selling or buying items at the Auction house. These addons will typically log whatever is happening, at a very rapid pace, in the chat log. Due to this, a message sent to a player will be quickly buried in the log amongst the given addons reporting.
There was another trend that was observed in the Auction house. This trend was when players went "Away From Keyboard", or AFK. Players would run into the Auction house, stand in front of an auctioneer, and then an AFK tag in front of their name would appear.
